Craft: Operation Tablescape #2
I am well on my way to creating our tablescape for Thanksgiving. Craft project number two is now complete! I am extremely excited to see everything all pulled together, and even more excited to share it with all of you! This is a project that I have completed before as a decorative element in the twins room. This one is obviously customized to Thanksgiving, but the beauty of this project is that you can make it to fit any occasion.
Let me just start by saying that this particular project is quite tedious at the start. The most time spent will be cutting your fabric choices into strips. I went to JoAnne Fabrics and picked through their quilting fabric squares until I had a nice array of fall colors. I use the quilting squares so I can save time on the cutting process, but you can use a bolt of fabric as well. I like to give the strips a little something extra, and cut triangles out of the ends of the fabric strips. It just gives it a finished look.
Finally after you have spent a good 2 hours cutting fabric strips you are ready to move onto the next step. This process may take you less time, I happened to have a house full of children over the weekend so I was doing this as they were decorating cookies.
I mixed all of my strips together in a large bowl and worked out of the bowl as I watched The Conjuring. It was a horrifying movie, and I loved every second of it! I don't use any kind of a pattern with this, I simply pick strips out of the bucket and tie them around my string lights. I just purchased a 50 count box of lights, and used 6 different fabric squares. I was able to cover the entire strand of lights and had a few pieces left over. As you can see my strips are about 1 1/2 inches wide, but some are larger than others. Like I said I got a bit side tracked through the project.
And there she is! Complete and as lovely as I expect it to be. Well, to be honest this came out a LOT better than I anticipated. I cannot wait to see everything come together and show it off to my blogger friends and the family that will be joining us for Thanksgiving day! Between my beautiful tablescape and cooking in the kitchen and football in the family room I believe this will be one of the best Thanksgivings yet!
Stay tuned for more operation tablescape!
Best,
Pennie
